Summer of ‘Stache!

Portland is a city with a lot to offer. Here are two front-runners that come to mind:

1. Summers
2. Mustaches

It’s true. This city’s summers are glorious. And in case you hadn’t noticed, this city is crawling with hipster ‘stache all year round.

That’s why, in 2012, Mustaches for Kids Portland is enterprising to bring you SUMMER OF ‘STACHE.

To be honest, we’re surprised we haven’t capitalized on Portland summer ‘staches already. But there’s no use dwelling in the ‘stache. This summer, we’d like to see more mustaches. A lot more mustaches. Mustaches for Kids.

So the next time you wake up and the sun is shining, the next time you leave work and the sky isn’t pitch black, or the next time you sit outside on a bar patio – remember – Summer of ‘Stache can’t be too far behind. And that’s something to look forward to.

So get your ‘stache face on, tell your friends, and stay tuned for details about M4K PDX’s hot 2012 Growing Season. Literally. We might get some 100+ degree weather this summer, guys.

Checkpoint #3 Wrap-Up!

Somehow Checkpoint 2 flew right by…and Checkpoint 3 is already upon us! We’ll see your happy faces at Roadside Attraction at 7pm to talk Bash deets, have a few drinks, and take some glamour shots!

Week 1 Re-Cap!

Can you believe we’ve made it through the week-one growth mark already? We can’t. Even more impressive? Our extra hairy, extra charitable Growers have already raised about $700 for kids in need!

So this week – when your ‘stache hits that awkward pubescent stage before full ‘stachehood, when you get suspicious looks from upstanding passers-by, or see that twinge of discomfort from every lady you meet – just remember: you’re doing it for the kids. And you’re doing a great job!

Even more ‘stachetastic? The good people at Vendetta are donating 10% of their proceeds from Thursday night’s Checkpoint to our cause! Couple that with all the fund raising skills you’ve got up your sleeves, and we’ll have a very successful Growing Season. Guaranteed.

For those of you didn’t get a chance to stop by Vendetta, we escaped from the rain, exchanged week-one mustache war stories, enjoyed a few beers, and had some fun with shuffle board. Here are some photographic nuggets of gold for your amusement:

Meet n’ Greet Re-Cap!

We were quite pleased to see some of your shining faces at Red Flag last night for our little Meet ‘n Greet. For those of you who missed out, we’ll re-cap:

We exchanged mustache war stories with M4K vets who are back to grow with us once more, we did some grade-A, high-class Grower recruiting at the bar, discussed the logistics of growing mustaches for charity, enjoyed a spotlight visit from a KOIN cameraman, and drank some beers. Some of us even ran down the street to Bishops to get our Hot Shave on. Big night!

Thanks to the good people at Bishops Barbershop, we will now be moving our Meet n Greet up to Thursday, January 28 – and will be handing out free hot shave coupons for the Bishops location of your choice!!

Calling All Mustache Growers!

The Portland chapter of Mustaches for Kids (M4K PDX) is gearing up to launch its third year of raucous facial hair growth for charity – and we want YOU!

We’re holding our Meet & Greet on Thursday, February 4 at 7:00pm at Red Flag (344 NE 28^th Ave). If you think you have what it takes to grow a mustache for charity – and compete for the honorable title of Portland’s Sweetest ‘Stache – please stop by! And bring your friends.

The Vitals: M4K is a volunteer-run organization that does good and has fun by growing mustaches for children’s charities. Really. This February, volunteer Growers will cultivate sweet mustaches and solicit pledges from friends, family, coworkers, and community members. Kind of like getting pledges to run a marathon – without the exertion, cramping, or dehydration.

We’ll meet at local bars on a weekly basis to check in, compare progress, and inspire donations for DonorsChoose.org, a nonprofit organization that funds projects at under served public schools right here in Oregon!

To top it all off, the Growing Season will culminate with the ‘Stache Bash – a mustache beauty pageant & talent show that will culminate with the crowning of Portland’s Sweetest ‘Stache.

What better excuse to grow a furry new friend on your upper lip? Please help spread the word and forward this on to anyone and everyone you know. Do it for the kids!
